Singer Johnny Drille Recalls How Record Labels Wanted To Change His Sound

Sensational singer, John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille, has recalled how he initially struggled to bag a recording deal because of his musical style.

He said, “People could never had imagined that a Mavin Records under Don Jazzy would sign an alternative artist like myself. It was weird for a lot of people.

“There were two other major labels in Nigeria that wanted to sign me but the conversation was always around, ‘How do we change your sound? How do we make it faster? How do we make it danceable?’

“However, when I met Don Jazzy, there were no conversations like that. He was just really a fan of the music…that was a big risk to take, but he pulled it off.”

Why I Support Polygamy – Comedian Alibaba

Veteran Nigerian comedian and actor, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has shared his views on polygamy, stating that he believes the practice can serve both practical and cultural purposes.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Nedu, the comedian argued that having multiple wives can sometimes promote stability in relationships, as it encourages cooperation and reduces tension among spouses.

“Some people believe that when you have only one wife, you may not be able to control the wife. But when she knows there’s another woman in the picture, she will calm down because she knows that once she misbehave, another one is available,” Alibaba said.

Referencing traditional practices in parts of Nigeria, Alibaba recalled that in old Ibadan, some women encouraged their husbands to take additional wives to prevent infidelity and maintain harmony at home.

“I know of a woman in Ibadan who supported her husband to be a polygamist. Back then, some women marry young girls and gift to their husbands. Because they don’t want their men having concubines,” he explained.

He also noted that in some families, polygamy arose out of necessity rather than choice.

“When a man dies, and his wife is still young or has little children, the family may call the brothers and say, which of you can take care of this girl. That’s also part of how polygamy evolved,” he said.

While acknowledging that the topic remains controversial, Alibaba maintained that polygamy holds value in certain social and cultural contexts.

“People may argue that it’s not right, but many of those same people end up having children with multiple partners,” he added.

Popstar Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seem to have confirmed dating rumours after they were spotted kissing on her yacht in Santa Barbara, California.

Viral photos making rounds online show the pair enjoying a cosy afternoon together, finally putting months of speculation to rest.

This comes weeks after reports claimed the two had become distant, with sources saying Trudeau wasn’t too comfortable with the attention that followed their dinner date in Montreal. But from these new pictures, it’s clear they’re still very much together.

In the photos, Katy Perry is seen in a black swimsuit sharing a kiss with a shirtless Trudeau. They were also pictured hugging, with Trudeau planting a kiss on her cheek.

An eyewitness told Daily Mail, “She pulled up her boat next to a small whale-watching boat, then they started making out. I didn’t realise who she was with until I saw the tattoo on the guy’s arm, and I immediately knew it was Justin Trudeau.”

The two first sparked rumours in July when they were spotted having dinner in Montreal. Trudeau was later seen at Katy Perry’s sold-out ‘Lifetimes’ tour stop in Canada.

Katy Perry recently ended her engagement with actor Orlando Bloom in June 2025 after seven years together. The former couple still co-parent their daughter, Daisy Dove, born in August 2020.

Justin Trudeau also announced his separation from his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage. They share three children — Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.

Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has urged the public to show greater empathy towards celebrities, stressing that fame does not shield them from emotional or mental struggles.

In a post shared via X on Sunday, the ‘Your Waist’ hitmaker reflected on the pressures of living under constant public scrutiny, describing the experience as “a double-edged sword”.

“We need to understand that celebrities are human with deep emotions and struggles like everyone else.

"Beyond the glamorization is simply a person simply wishing to be human like the rest of us,” Iyanya wrote.

“For male celebrities, it is always difficult to bounce back after hitting a low point because men are wired to be stoic and not show vulnerability, Not to ask for help for fear of being seen as weak.”
